Hozier On World Cafe

  • Listen:
Hozier on World Cafe Hozier's 2013 hit “Take Me to Church” launched him to international success and is a great example of who he is an artist – Hozier can pack one song with huge musical moments as well as intimate ones. The title track of his new EP, Nina Cried Power, is a similarly rousing song that pays tribute to artists who have raised their voices in protest, like Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, and Mavis Staples, who sings on the track. We'll hear that song and more in a live performance today, and Hozier tells host Talia Schlanger how his songwriting has changed since "Take Me to Church." On the next World Cafe.
Hozier creates musical moments big enough to galvanize every molecule around them into action and tiny enough that they can burrow themselves in the hidden corners of your heart.
Hozier is an artist who can create musical moments big enough to galvanize every molecule of air around them into action and tiny enough that they can burrow themselves in the hidden corners of your own heart. His ability to do both on the same album - and sometimes, even on the same song — is what makes him so special.
